Denise reports: A very hot and humid few days in Birmingham with some wonderful competitions on both the track and in the field.
All Hunts athletes representing Cambs were a credit to themselves, the county and the club with all but Noah competing in these champs for the first time with Kitty Kelly, Iris Purser and Daniel Brook all in the lower end of their age groups.
Benedict Scott put together the race of his life, smashing 50 secs in the 400m for the first time with a well-measured race. He beat his PB by 0.84 with 49.29 and missed out on making the final by just 0.09.
Iris, still only Year 8, was in a high-quality field and, with what has been an outstanding season so far, dug deep when the pace picked up. Although she didn’t make the final, she raced well. Iris has learnt a lot and will be back next year.
Daniel must have run a PB over the first 600m. He tired towards the end of race but ran well (1:59.02) and great to see an athlete commit to a race; lots learnt.
Noah Scott-Donkin is a veteran of English Schools in his last year which is an achievement in itself, with exams, etc. He dug deep in a strong race and although not a PB has completed his English Schools journey and will continue on with greater things.
Kitty, like Iris – only Year 8, ran a superb race with yet another personal best (43.07) and club record yet again.
Sam Woodhall also ran strongly in the 400m again another personal best (52.25, bettering his 52.47). He really is getting to grips with the tactics of 400m and has continually improved his times this season.
