    05/09/2010  Bedford 10k  details

2 club runners took part in the Bedford 10k which was being run for its 3rd year. The course was traffic free, following a cycle path from the Bedford International Athletic stadium out around Priory County Park.

The course was reported as quick and Sean Barker certainly proved that true with a new PB, smashing his previous time by 26 seconds and achieving his goal of getting under 39 minutes with a chip time of 38:56.

Wayne Gimblett was the second club member to compete with a time of 40:24.

    Results:

    19/293 Sean Barker 38:56 (PB)

    42/293 Wayne Gimblett 40:24

  • 05/09/2010  Bristol Half Marathon  details

Barry Wild ran today's Bristol half marathon, one of 10262 finishers on a hilly course, in the rain as well as a breeze.
The race was no breeze for Barry as he said 'it hurt lots'.
However, he recorded 1:28:00 to finish 350th. In such a large field, that's a very creditable placing.

  • 05/09/2010  Eastern Veterans League Final - Milton Keynes  details

After finishing dead last in league competition in 2009, Huntingdonshire AC veteran men’s team rose to the next level by completing their season with a fine sixth place in the Eastern Veterans League Finals at Milton Keynes. Peter Downhill and Richard Holland shared top honours for the club with two outstanding performances each. Fifty-one year-old Richard came into this meet with the club veteran’s 3000m record firmly fixed in his sights. Competing in the combined M40 and M50 race, he set off in determined fashion and stuck with the younger leaders for the greater part of the race. Slightly tailing off towards the end, Richard nevertheless held on well to slice almost six seconds from the previous record set by Rob Campbell in July. Later in the meet, Richard won the M50 1500m race convincingly by over 12 seconds. Equally as impressive, Peter Downhill stamped his authority in the M40 800m event by storming to the front as soon as the gun went off. He built up a 15-metre lead by halfway and lost virtually no ground as he beat the best in the East by 3.5 seconds. Peter later teamed up with Derek Darnell, Wayne DuBose, and Richard Phelan as he anchored the relay team to a new club record, slicing half a second from the previous best. Thanks to Mike Hayball, Penny Butcher, Sandra Pedley, Karl Jackson, and Amelia Darnell for their help with providing the clubs required officiating duties. With the build up to next year’s veteran’s athletics season starting on Sunday, 17th October, newcomers (women age 35+ and men 40+) are welcome to this taster session.
